What are templates
Templates are not edited, you can not edit a website template, or insert any content inside the templates, but you need to understand them, unless you want to change the header, footer or the top navigation, if its inside the template.
Templates are one of the library folder on the libary pages, The motivation behind templates is to eliminate unnecessary duplication in your website. Maintaining many similar projects can be painful: every time one small detail changes you need to fix it many times over. Templates solve this problem by allowing you to share Wesite templates among pages in a natural way.

New templates can be added by selecting a new page item from the options on the left, then select website templates.

Layouts only define different blocks and form a nested structure of blocks, it also tells where exactly the blocks must be presented in the page. For example the different structural blocks such as ‘left Nav’,content’,right’,’header, footer’ etc. by inserting the objects it really tells where they should be in a page. The content Placeholder contains all the pages to be placed where there content placeholder is. Include page contains one of the include page you have selected, By clicking on the include object then link by browsing to the page you have created to hold the left navigation.
