In this section we explain how to create a new page from scratch. We will explore the page types and determine what page type you should be using.

What are page types?
Page Types are pages that tell SoftPage what content to expect. This is because SoftPage needs to perform a certain task in the content of that page that i cannot if it was not set up to do so. An example would be a search results page page. The system could not possibly prepare the data required for the search results for each and every page if if new it was not going to use that data. The same for the sign up page. Because Each page have the potential to perform any number of functions, the specific page type pages are able to do that and more. It also prevents mixing of more complex functions, like it would not be possible for a "checkout" page and a "checkout complete" page to exist on the same page.

Yes, page types are mainly for the e-commerce pages, but the custom, search results and newsletter page types are also important to distinguish.

Creating a New Default Page
The quickest way to make a new page, with the default settings. Click the New icon on the Quick Access tool bar. Remember that this page is not saved yet, so you will need to save it.

The Default Page Type
This is the main page type that you will be using for most of the pages that you create. This page type can support any Live Object, and will be the focus of this document. To create a new blank default page simply click the new page icon on the Quick Link bar or from the SoftPage icon, select New... Default Page.

If you managed with that you will see that a window has opened looking something like the image above. This is the editor. This editor will create the HTML that is the base language behind all pages in the Internet, You will notice that the Type says Default Page, at the bottom of this window.

Spend a few moments going over the different editing tabs to become familiar with the editing environment.

Library Pages
The New Page options has a few more options (the last 4). These are all templates. Templates are not actual pages, and therefor you cannot navigate to them, but perform an important function in SoftPage. The library pages look and edit very much the same as the other pages. There are differences but these will be looked at later in this document.
